Hints and tips for Bullies

Kindly given by a Bullie owner.

Chewing/destructivness - Most bullies do tend to chew. The trick is teaching them as quickly as possible what they are allowed to chew & what they are not! My Roxy is 8 & she still loves chewing for hours on end.

Toys - The Kong & nylabone range of toys are great for bullies as they can withstand their destruction attempts. I have bought many a toy supposed to be 'indestructable' only to take it back in pieces the day after & get my money back!

On or off lead - A lot of people with bullies do let them of lead. However, when we rescused Roxy 5 yrs ago we knew she was not great with other animals so we have never let her run free. Even if we muzzled her, she has such a strong 'chase' instinct that she would follow a cat/rabbit into a road & would be deaf to our calls. She does have a decent sized garden & gets walks on an extendable lead so she has plenty of opportunity to stretch her legs.

Subborness - YES! They are as subborn as you've heard! Roxy knows loads of commands but they are always done on her terms. Often when she is called in from the garden she will look at me, wag her tail but not move an inch....after a couple of minutes thinking about it she will charge full pelt at me!! Think that's just her sense of humour TBO Another thing she likes doing is refusing to move if she's sunbathing and I want to vacume where she's lying. She makes her body go all limp like a sack of potatoes & I have to drag her...as soon as I've vacummed the sunny spot she leaps up & trots back over to it!
